Coastal Georgia Seniors Discover Our History at the Pinpoint Museum
Tourism Savannah Georgia – Discover our History at the Pinpoint Museum
On today’s edition of Savannah Senior Tourism, we look at the Pinpoint Museum.
History is a passion for many Coastal Georgia seniors.
The Pin Point Museum is a wonderful destination for Savannah area seniors citizens who are interested in discovering some of Coastal Georgia’s most unique history.
For nearly one hundred years, Pin Point was isolated and self sustained, a Gullah/Geechee enclave founded by first-generation freedmen where family, religion and work were deeply connected to the rich Gulf waters.
In 1985, the A.S. Varn & Son oyster and crab factory in Pin Point closed its doors for good. It marked the end of an era for the tiny Coastal Georgia fishing community tucked quietly away on the banks of the Moon River just south of Savannah, Georgia.
Today, the factory has been reopened as the Pin Point Heritage Museum, celebrating the life, work and history of this Gullah/Geechee community that calls Pin Point home.
This is a wonderful day trip for Coastal Georgia Senior citizen groups, Savannah area senior ministry groups, and anyone looking to connect with this interesting facet of our shared Georgia history.
Hours: The Pinpoint Museum is open Saturdays from 9A-5P.
