Coastal Georgia Senior Day Trip: Celebrate a Civil War Era Christmas with Jeffersonville’s Historic Richland Church

Coastal Empire senior citizen history buffs certainly have plenty of opportunities for memorable and meaningful day trips during the holiday season.
One that stands out particularly for active Coastal Georgia Seniors is “Keeping Christmas” at Richland Church in Jeffersonville.
No IPTC Header foundThe church is 202 years old and embraces its history. The “Keeping Christmas” event provides a re-enactment of a typical Civil War era Christmas.
The event is done in the “living history” style using knowledgeable actors in costume and in character.
The accuracy is enhanced by using actual holiday diary entries from Civil War era diaries.

Some of the features of the “Living Christmas” event will include:
  • Actors reenacting scences from diary entries written during the period.
  • Acapella harmony of Christmas carols from the 1800’s
  • Confederate soldiers and their Christmas stories
  • Family and community brought to life in a beautiful 202 year old country church setting

  •  Seating is first come first serve.
  • Donations are suggested for the performance: $10. for Adults and $5 for students. Under 12, no donation suggested.
  • All funds collected go to protect and preserve Richland Church and its historic cemetery which are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Richland Restoration League, Inc. which sponsors the program is a non-profit organization; all donations are tax deductible.
  • “Keeping Christmas” is a family event and a great way to kick off your family’s celebration of the Christmas season remembering a simpler time and the true meaning of the season.
