Coastal Georgia seniors have decades of work experience – building companies, public service, maintaining households, and military service.
Many Coastal Empire senior citizens turn to volunteering to share their experience and energy with those in need.
Would you like a Coastal Georgia volunteer opportunity that would allow you to help feed other Coastal Empire senior citizens in need?
Consider volunteering with the Coastal Georgia Second Harvest “Brown Bag for Seniors” program.
In order to feed our elderly neighbors who are at-risk for hunger, Coastal Georgia Second Harvest needs your support.
Volunteers are needed on the third Saturday of each month to help Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia pack bags that will be distributed to Coastal Empire seniors in need.
Is your church looking for a way to support Coastal Georgia seniors? Second Harvest is searching for partner nonprofit agencies to help distribute to those in need. Coastal Georgia churches and their congregations can be a perfect fit.
Here is some additional information about the Coastal Georgia Brown Bag for Seniors program:
The Brown Bag Program has been providing groceries to low-income Georgia seniors since 1984.
The bags containing enough food to make approximately 5 meals are packed by volunteers and distributed to more than 1,700 seniors during the third week of the month.
In many cases this is when many Coastal Empire Seniors who on fixed incomes are faced with difficult decisions about whether to purchase food or medications.
The Brown Bag for Seniors Program of Coastal Georgia includes all types of food:
- canned goods
- fresh bread
- pastries
- Fresh vegetables and fruit when available.
Second Harvest serves Coastal Georgia seniors across 21 counties.
More than 10,605 Coastal Empire senior citizens are living below the poverty level and need our help to have enough food to eat.
In order to organize all volunteers effectively and ensure a pleasant experience, we ask that any groups wishing to volunteer for the Brown Bag Program please contact Becky Willman at 912.721.1783 or bwillman@helpendhunger.org.
Brown Bag for Seniors preparation begins at 8 a.m. on designated Saturdays. For your safety, no sandals, clogs, flip flops or shoes exposing any part of the foot are allowed.
