Chatham County senior citizens benefit from property tax initiative.

Taxation usually works against Coastal Empire seniors, but one initiative has actually helped us:

In 2000 an initiative was passed to assist Chatham County seniors who own their own homes.

Chatham County voters approved a local referendum that is keeping our Chatham County seniors from being taxed out of our homes.

You probably hear of other areas where seniors can no longer afford to pay their property taxes, but for Chatham County seniors, residential property assessments are essentially frozen.

This program has been great news for Savannah senior citizens.

Typically, when senior citizens are retirement planning, the cost of property tax increases is a mystery. For Chatham county seniors, this program is a real blessing – you know today what your property taxes will always be.

The way the system works is that our homestead exemptions are automatically raised for local seniors to match any increases in Chatham County home values as long as we own our home.

This program has been a blessing for many Coastal Empire senior home owners.
