One great group for Coastal Georgia veterans is the American Legion.

The George K. Gannam VFW Post 184, its officers and over 500 members welcome Savannah veterans to visit them in Thunderbolt, Georgia just outside Savannah.

Thunderbolt is an historic fishing village on the Wilmington River, in the Metropolitan area of Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.

The George K. Gannam VFW Post is named in honor of SSG George K. Gannam, U.S. Army Air Corps, the first Savannahian killed in the sunrise Sunday attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941.

Gannam was cut down by strafing fire as he raced to protect the aircraft in the hangars at Hickham Field.

Since being chartered in 1946, Savannah Georgia VFW Post 184 has been welcoming Coastal Empire veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces.

American Legion Post 184 Savannah will continue to open their doors and their hearts to warmly welcome all military personnel who have served or are still serving our great country.

Joining American Legion Post 184 Thunderbolt/Savannah would enable you to continue serving your God, Country and Community.

The missionof American Legion Post 185 Savannah / Thunderbolt is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families embodied in The American Legion preamble.
